Method 1: Accessing the Dimmer Switches (Thumbwheel)

This is one of the most convenient ways to deal with Jeeperior lights turning on when you open the doors.

Now, how do you turn off the lights using this method? For this, you need to locate the dimmer switch thumbwheel left of the steering wheel of your Jeep.

You can roll the dimmer switch up and down. Now, when you scroll the dimmer all the way up, the dome or interior lights in your Jeep Wrangler are supposed to turn on.

On the other hand, you can turn off the light if you scroll the dimmer all the way down. It is as simple as that. 

The dome lights are supposed to turn on when you open the door if the dimmer is in the middle position.

Now, if you want the dome lights not to come on when you open the door of your Jeep, you should turn the dimmer all the way down. This will make a clicking noise. 

But, unfortunately, if you turn off the dome light, you will notice the effect on the dash light at the same time.

To be more precise, the dash light’s brightness decreases when you slide the scroll dimmer down to turn off the dome light.

Method 2: Remove the Door Switch Defeat Fuse

This method can also stop your Jeep’s lights from turning on when its doors are opened. The process of completing the task might take some time.

Additionally, removing the door switch defeat fuse will permanently disable the dome light from turning on when you open the door. 

You will find the door switch deactivation fuse inside the glovebox of your Jeep. If you own a Jeep Wrangler TJ or LJ, you can locate the glovebox on the passenger side of your vehicle behind the front seat. 

  • Step 1: Remove the glovebox.
  • Step 2: Locate the fuse diagram on the side of the glove box. 
  • Step 3: Determine the location of the door switch defeat fuse. 
  • Step 4: Take a fuse puller and pull the fuse at the bottom of the right corner.

Depending on your Jeep type, the glove box might be somewhere different. To make sure of the glovebox’s location, check your Jeep’s owner’s manual.
